Must-Have Camera Gear for Newborn Photography | Virginia Newborn Photographer

Are you hoping to step into the world of newborn photography?! Or maybe you’re just interested in what I use to document all the sweet little ones?! This is my must-have camera gear for newborn photography that I swear by! After years and years of documenting all the precious babies, I’ve narrowed it down to these 4!

Must-Have Camera Gear for Newborn Photography

Canon 28-70 2.0 RF

This lens is MAGIC!! With the Canon 28-70 2.0 RF, I can capture it all! From tender details to sweet and intimate moments, this lens is a workhorse for me! The range of zoom allows me to effortlessly capture those lively, dynamic family shots, as well. Its zoom range allows you to switch between different angles and lengths, making it my go-to choice to document all the special moments. Whether parents are cuddling their sweet babies or little ones are laughing and smiling, this lens lets you frame the perfect shot every single time!!

100mm To Get Up Close and Personal

For those heart-melting close-ups that we ALL love, the 100mm lens is my go-to. Those tiny tiny toes, button nose, and every other adorable little baby feature, are so perfectly captured with the 100mm! It helps create a balanced final gallery full of all the big moments and tiny, sweet details.

50mm RF 1.2L

When it’s time for those precious posed newborn shots, the 50mm RF 1.2L is always on my camera. I typically shoot wide open at f/2.8, which gives that dreamy background blur and beautiful compression! It’s the PERFECT choice to highlight the sweet  features and details of the tiny babies. Uhhh, heart-melting…now.

EOS R3

Now, what’s a good lens without a camera, right?? The Canon EOS R3 is my camera of choice, and I loooooove it. I use it for filmmaking and all of my sessions! It’s versatile, and has great low-light performance, and focus, making it a DREAM for every session!
