Knowing when to book maternity photos can be such an important step in your pregnancy journey. And honestly, it’s a great one. Because timing really does matter when it comes to capturing this beautifully unique chapter in your life.
I always recommend reaching out during your second trimester to get your session scheduled. That might feel early, but trust me – calendars fill up fast, especially if your 30–34 week mark falls during busy seasons like Fall. This timeframe is perfect because you’re usually still feeling fairly comfortable, your bump is beautifully round, and you haven’t yet hit that super tired home-stretch phase. Although, let’s be real.. you’re doing something amazing no matter how you’re feeling!
Pregnancy is a whirlwind. Maybe you were unsure on if maternity photos were right for you. Maybe time slipped by. Or maybe you just changed your mind and suddenly want to hold onto this memory. If that’s you: still reach out. I mean it. I’ve photographed so many incredible moms who almost didn’t book, and not one has ever regretted it.
In fact, most say they wish they had done it sooner.
Maternity photography is all about celebrating this fleeting moment. Your strength, your anticipation, and the quiet love already forming for someone you haven’t even met yet. Whether we’re out in golden-hour fields or cozied up at my lifestyle studio, these images become a time capsule of a season that deserves to be remembered forever for not only you, but your child.
So, when to book maternity photos? Ideally, start planning in your second trimester and aim to shoot between 30–34 weeks. But if that window is closing or has already passed, please don’t let that stop you! There’s still time to honor this journey.
And I’d be honored to help you do it.
