I’m often asked what the difference is between Posed Newborn Portraits and the other types of sessions I offer. And it’s true, newborn photography comes in many beautiful forms! From candid lifestyle sessions to artistic studio portraits, each approach tells a unique story. But today I want to talk about the magic of posed newborn photography, and why it might be the perfect fit for your baby’s first photo session.
In posed sessions, we work with carefully curated props, soft swaddles, delicate textures, and thoughtful color schemes. The result is timeless, styled portraits of your little one. These sessions happen in a warm and cozy studio environment. Lighting and backdrops are intentionally crafted to highlight your baby’s purest features. Plus, every pose is gentle and safe, allowing your baby to remain peaceful..
..while creating art that will last a lifetime.
Unlike lifestyle newborn photography, which is more about documenting your family’s natural rhythm in your home or my lifestyle studio; posed sessions offer a fine art feel. The creativity is in the details. Think plush cushions, sleepy curled-up poses, and soft shadows that bring out every perfect feature.
One important thing to note: posed newborn photography is typically done within the first two weeks of life. This is when babies are sleepiest and most flexible. This time frame allows infants to naturally curl up into those sweet poses we all love. Because of this delicate timeframe, I recommend getting your session booked during your second trimester. This ensures we have space on the calendar around your due date and can adjust if baby arrives early or late.
If you’re leaning more toward a lifestyle session, those can be booked a bit later; anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks postpartum.
But for Posed Newborn Portraits, a little planning ahead goes a long way!
No matter which style you choose, my goal is always the same: to create a calm, inclusive, and nurturing experience for you and your little one. Every baby is beautifully unique, and your photos should be too!
