My Perfect Day in DC As a Photographer

When people tell me they are moving to DC, I get really excited because there are SO many amazing things about this city. There are too many to sum up in one day, but I’m gonna do my best to share my perfect day in DC as a photographer. I have lived in the area for a long, long time – and these are my must-do items for anyone considering living in this beautiful part of the country.

As a Washington DC Family, Maternity & Newborn Photographer, I have gotten the privilege to explore many areas around the city and DEF have some favs!! Okay…perfect day…

What is I love most about living in Washington DC metro area is the amount of museums, food, history and shopping. This is our nation’s capitol and there’s just so much to do. We usually plan our trip early Spring when the weather is nice to go into the city. I have two boys (ages 11 and 10) and we love a good day trip!

We always start up and early in the morning,  coffee is a must so I’ll swing by a fun and trendy coffee shop such as D Light Cafe & Bakery – everything there is delicious!  Our first stop is the Smithsonian of Natural History (you can hardly walk through it in ONE day, so we pick our favorites and spend time there for the morning).

Next, we grab a quick snack in their cafe and then start walking toward the Washington monument. From there you can see the White House Capitol and Tidal Basin. In all reality though, every corner is something new – which makes for endless conversation with my kiddos. I love it.

The National Mall is made up of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. all which run around the tidal basin.

As a DC Family Photographer, this is where I get the most requests to shoot Cherry Blossom sessions. I LOVE shooting here, but I always tell my clients there is a professionally photography permit required from National Park services in advance to avoid any fines  And they will fine you! haha

Cherry Blossoms have a mind of their own, but we have an annual Cherry Blossom festival – which is so freaking pretty! The locals use this website to track the blossoms, so if you are planning a trip, make sure to check this out first!

After walk around the National Mall, we love to wrap up our perfect day in DC with a stop at a local favorite either Call Your Mother Deli  OR  Ice Cream Jubilee for ice cream (who doesn’t like ice cream after a long day of touring?)

As a photographer, I love helping my clients navigate moving to DC and finding their way around this amazing city. I’m always down to tell you all the local spots. If you are thinking of moving here, I recommend checking out Capitol Hill, Georgetown, Logan Circle & DuPont Circle as neighborhoods to check out.

If you are DC local, what is your perfect day in the city? Leave your suggestions in the comments!

And if you’re looking for a family, maternity or newborn photographer – I would be honored to be considered! You can check out my work HERE.
