Home Birth Portraits are some of the most meaningful and intimate sessions I’ve ever had the honor of photographing. There’s something incredibly powerful about documenting a new life coming into the world right in the warmth and comfort of home.
Getting to capture so many moments after babies are born with my Fresh 48 Sessions has been truly a privilege. Those sweet snuggles and quiet awe in parent’s eyes are nothing short of beautiful. But lately I’ve found myself wanting to be present even earlier in the journey.
Birth stories are some of the most emotional and profound things humans can experience. Certain magic surrounds the hours of laboring that’s unlike anything else. The calm before baby arrives, the emotional rush when they take their first breath, and the gentle chaos that follows.
Those first few hours after a home birth can be such a beautiful blur.
And for the birthing parent, it can be hard to fully take it all in while also recovering and soaking up their newborn. It’s all over in the blink of an eye, but these precious moments you’ve been anticipating for months – maybe even years – deserve to be documented in the most loving way possible.
That’s where having a photographer comes in. Being invited into that sacred space as a quiet observer means I can preserve these fleeting moments for you. The gentle touches, the exchanged looks of affirmation, and the way older siblings’ eyes light up when they meet their baby brother or sister.
