“When should I book my Newborn Session?” is an important question racking every expectant parent’s mind. As a maternity and newborn photographer, I know just how important it is to document those early days with your baby, for soon they’ll be only memories.
The short answer? As early as possible..
but ideally within your second trimester. The reason being: my calendar fills up fast!
I only take a limited number of newborn clients each month, so I can give each family the time and attention they deserve. Not to mention extra flexibility if baby arrives sooner (or later) than anticipated. When you book in advance, your due date is placed permanently on my calendar. The two weeks surrounding it are left open and flexible, just in case. Then once your baby arrives, we’re already prepared to get you booked at just the right time!
Hot Tip: If you already have a scheduled induction or C-section date, we can go ahead and schedule your session before baby even arrives, giving you one less thing to worry about postpartum.
For Fine Art Newborn sessions, we aim to photograph your little one within the first two weeks after birth. This is the prime time for portraits, while they’re still oh-so-sleepy and love to curl up in those squishy poses.
For Lifestyle Newborn sessions, there tends to be a little more flexibility. These typically happen when baby’s between 2-6 weeks old, with the option to stay at home or come to my lifestyle studio. These types of portraits are more relaxed and connection-focused, centered around the everyday moments with your little one.
Once your little one is born, all that’s left is to send me a quick email from the hospital to finalize your session date. That way all you have to do is focus on soaking in those sweet newborn snuggles..
